The South Korean benchmark index, the Kospi, experienced a significant decline of 5.46 percent on Tuesday, closing at 6,035.35 points. This sharp downturn was primarily driven by aggressive selling from international investors, which briefly pushed the index below the 6,000-point threshold during trading hours. Despite positive financial performance reports from major semiconductor manufacturers, the persistent outflow of capital has fueled investor anxiety regarding the future trajectory of the market. The intensity of the sell-off necessitated the activation of a sidecar mechanism, which temporarily halted trading for the first time in approximately two months to manage market volatility. The index managed a slight recovery in the afternoon session but remained under considerable pressure as market participants weighed the impact of the ongoing foreign divestment.
