The Huanggang Port border crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen recorded 79,500 passenger trips during its inaugural day of operations. Following a six-year redevelopment project, the facility now utilizes a joint clearance system that enables travelers to complete immigration procedures for both jurisdictions simultaneously. Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan reported that the initial launch proceeded without significant issues. Officials are now preparing for a more rigorous assessment of the port's capacity during the upcoming Chung Yeung Festival long weekend. According to the transport chief, comprehensive stress tests were conducted prior to the opening to ensure that the infrastructure can manage anticipated surges in cross-border traffic. Authorities remain confident that existing contingency plans will effectively handle the increased volume of travelers expected over the holiday period.
