Sri Lanka Cricket’s selection committee chairman, Kapila Vijeygunawardena, has clarified the rationale behind recent adjustments to the national team roster. The committee is currently focused on establishing a consistent lineup in preparation for the next World Cup. Regarding leadership changes, Charith Asalanka was named vice-captain for the upcoming England white-ball series, a decision based on his prior leadership background and experience. Vijeygunawardena emphasized that the removal of Kamindu Mendis from the vice-captaincy role was not linked to any disciplinary problems or poor performance. Instead, the selectors intend to allow Mendis to prioritize his batting responsibilities without the added pressure of leadership duties. The board maintains that these strategic shifts are essential for long-term team stability and performance optimization.
