The National Dengue Control Unit of Sri Lanka has scheduled a six-day intensive prevention campaign starting November 9. This initiative targets 74 Medical Officer of Health divisions across 13 districts identified as high-risk zones through entomological surveillance. Acting Director Kapila Kannangara confirmed that the operation addresses rising infection rates observed in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Northern, Eastern, and Central provinces. Health authorities are implementing these measures in response to a significant surge in cases throughout the nation. Official data indicates that Sri Lanka has recorded approximately 105,500 dengue infections and 79 fatalities thus far this year. The program is set to conclude on November 14, aiming to mitigate the spread of the virus in areas most vulnerable to outbreaks.
