The Department of Meteorology in Sri Lanka has issued an advisory regarding anticipated widespread rainfall over the next ten days. Director General Ajith Wijemanne stated that the ongoing El Niño phenomenon may exacerbate weather conditions, increasing the likelihood of floods and landslides. Officials are urging the public to exercise caution as atmospheric disturbances in the Bay of Bengal, which are common during October and November, could intensify due to current climate patterns. While December is expected to bring significant precipitation to the northeastern parts of the country, the Northern and Eastern Provinces are currently projected to experience standard rainfall levels. Authorities have confirmed that preparedness measures are being implemented to mitigate the impact of potential extreme weather events in the coming months.
