Deputy Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply T.B. Sarath has addressed public backlash regarding images showing him holding the hands of young girls. The controversy arose following events where the official inaugurated new housing projects. Sarath explained to the media that his physical contact with the children was a deliberate effort to stop them from bowing to him as a sign of respect. He stated that he discourages children from performing such gestures toward political figures and was actively instructing them not to bow during these interactions. The Deputy Minister further suggested that the negative commentary surrounding these photographs on social media platforms may be driven by political motives rather than genuine concern.
