President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that the Sri Lankan government is evaluating potential tax concessions for residential rooftop solar users to promote the adoption of battery storage. Speaking at the Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit, the President highlighted the financial burden current taxes place on smaller storage units. While current government policy offers incentives for large-scale battery systems exceeding 1 megawatt, smaller units remain heavily taxed. The administration is now considering extending these benefits to domestic systems ranging from 200 to 500 kilowatts. Despite the proposal, the President noted that technical difficulties persist regarding the classification and differentiation of various battery capacities for regulatory purposes. This initiative aims to improve energy storage accessibility for households utilizing solar power.
