South Korean manufacturers of battery materials are actively challenging China's dominant position in the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) market. Companies such as Posco Future M and L&F, which previously prioritized nickel-based cathodes for electric vehicles, are now pivoting their strategies. This transition involves repurposing existing manufacturing facilities and constructing new plants specifically for LFP production. These firms are securing significant supply agreements with major domestic battery producers to meet the rising demand for energy storage systems. This strategic shift is largely driven by evolving United States trade regulations and the growing global requirement for diverse energy storage solutions, providing a unique opportunity for Korean suppliers to gain market share in a sector previously controlled by Chinese entities.
