King Philippe of the Belgians has arrived in Astana for his inaugural visit to Kazakhstan as monarch. He is accompanied by Queen Mathilde and a delegation consisting of 110 members. While this marks his first official trip as King, Philippe previously traveled to the country three times while serving as Crown Prince. Two of those earlier visits were linked to Belgian astronaut Frank De Winne, whom he greeted upon his return from the International Space Station in 2002 and later saw off at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in 2009. The Belgian royal title, established in 1831, signifies a connection to the people rather than the land and is officially recognized in the nation's three primary languages. The current visit underscores the ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
