The Consumer Affairs Authority of Sri Lanka has successfully prosecuted Richard Pieris Distributors for offering expired drinks to the public. Legal action was initiated following inspections at Arpico Super outlets in Kottawa and Homagama. During the court proceedings at the Homagama Magistrate’s Court on September 10, the company admitted to the charges. The Kottawa branch received a penalty of Rs. 75,000 for stocking expired herbal beverages, while the Homagama location was fined Rs. 50,000 for displaying outdated soft drink containers. The regulatory body emphasized that these items were presented in a way that could potentially deceive shoppers. Consequently, the retailer was ordered to pay a combined total of Rs. 125,000 in fines for these violations of consumer safety standards.
