Environment Minister Dammika Patabendi has mandated an immediate cessation of construction activities regarding a gabion wall in the Wahatiyagoda coastal region of Wattala. This decision follows a site visit conducted on Saturday alongside representatives from the Coast Conservation Department. Observations during the inspection suggested that the structure, intended to mitigate coastal erosion, may have exceeded the authorized spatial limits and encroached upon public beach territory. Consequently, the Minister has ordered a comprehensive inquiry to evaluate the project's adherence to official permits and established boundaries. All development work at the site will remain suspended until the investigation is concluded and further instructions are issued by the relevant authorities.
