The Department of Wildlife Conservation in Sri Lanka has initiated an inquiry following the discovery of a deceased tusker in the Kahatagasdigiliya region. Wildlife officials located the animal's remains on Sunday near the Kayagollewa tank, situated within the Meeminnawala Grama Niladhari Division. Initial assessments indicate the elephant, aged between 20 and 25 years and standing roughly seven feet tall, likely perished about a week prior to being found. Evidence suggests that the left tusk was severed from the carcass using a sharp implement after the animal had already died. Authorities are scheduled to present their findings to the Kahatagasdigiliya Magistrate’s Court, and a formal post-mortem examination is currently being arranged to determine the exact cause of death.
