The Supreme Court has directed Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut to provide a clarification concerning his recent statements directed at the judiciary and Chief Justice Surya Kant. Raut’s criticism followed the Chief Justice's decision to decline a meeting with Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition. Gandhi had intended to present a memorandum detailing grievances regarding electoral irregularities and the management of voter rolls. Raut alleged that the Chief Justice and other judicial figures had engaged in social activities, such as badminton and dinners, with government ministers and ruling party members while simultaneously refusing to meet with the opposition leader. In a related development, Attorney General R Venkataramani has authorized the Supreme Court Bar Association to pursue criminal proceedings in connection with the matter.
