Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration (CGA) has formally denied Beijing's authority over waters near the island following reports of Chinese patrol activities. The Chinese coast guard recently announced that vessels, including the Hushi, conducted law enforcement operations off Taiwan's eastern coast. In response, the CGA deployed its own ships to monitor the situation and asserted that Taiwan maintains exclusive sovereign rights over its exclusive economic zone. Taipei officials characterized the Chinese maneuvers as a deliberate attempt to harass local vessels and propagate a false narrative regarding maritime control. Experts at a Taipei security forum noted that Beijing is increasingly utilizing non-military assets, such as coast guard and research ships, to challenge Taiwan's administrative jurisdiction. This strategy aims to normalize these incursions as routine management, thereby undermining Taiwan's ability to effectively govern its surrounding maritime territory.
