Taiwanese authorities announced on Sunday that they successfully intercepted and dispersed sixteen Chinese vessels operating near the island. The Taiwan Coast Guard characterized the incident as a coordinated act of maritime harassment involving a mix of coast guard, research, and fishing boats. These vessels were reportedly active simultaneously across several regions, including the eastern, southern, and southwestern coasts, as well as the vicinity of the Pratas Islands. Officials described the event as an unusually large-scale operation that utilized hybrid warfare tactics. While some of the Chinese ships breached restricted waters, the Taiwanese coast guard confirmed that they were effectively driven away from the area. This incident highlights ongoing tensions in the region as Taiwan continues to monitor and respond to increased maritime activity from mainland China.
