Furthermore, the laureates identified increased visa restrictions as an additional barrier to the international collaboration essential for innovation. Sadelain questioned the strategic rationale behind diminishing national scientific capabilities, noting various theories circulating about the policy shifts, including fiscal austerity and a preference for private sector research models.
