A technical malfunction caused one unit of the Adani power plant to cease operations early Friday morning, intensifying load-shedding throughout Bangladesh. The facility had recently increased its output to over 1,400 megawatts following a period of reduced capacity caused by coal supply disruptions linked to storms earlier in August. Although the plant had been gradually restoring its generation levels since Thursday evening, the sudden shutdown has disrupted the power supply. Officials from the Bangladesh Power Development Board and the Power Grid Company confirmed that the unexpected technical issue has negatively impacted the national grid. While the government has projected potential improvements in the energy sector starting in 2027, the current incident highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining consistent electricity distribution across the country.
