A biology professor from Chulalongkorn University has cautioned vehicle owners against the prolonged use of plastic bags intended to shield cars from floodwaters. While these covers might serve as a temporary emergency measure for those unable to relocate their vehicles, Dr. Jessada Denduangboripant highlighted significant risks associated with the practice. According to the expert, sealing a car in plastic for an extended duration can trap moisture inside, leading to the development of mold. Furthermore, he warned that these airtight enclosures could potentially cause vehicles to become buoyant, increasing the risk of them floating away during rising water levels. The warning follows the circulation of images showing such protective covers online, with the professor noting that similar methods were previously utilized during the 2011 Thailand floods.
