Thailand’s tourism sector is struggling as foreign arrivals have dropped by 3.65% compared to the previous year, reaching 22.67 million visitors so far. To meet the adjusted annual goal of 33 million, the country requires over 100,000 daily arrivals for the remainder of the year. Recent flooding in Bangkok, combined with logistical issues at Suvarnabhumi Airport, has created uncertainty during the critical high season. While Chinese tourism recently saw a significant weekly surge of over 42%, the circulation of flood-related imagery on social media poses a potential risk to this momentum. Although major tourist hubs remain operational without widespread cancellations, the Tourism Authority of Thailand remains heavily dependent on the Chinese market to bolster fourth-quarter performance and recover from the current deficit.
