The weaver bird, locally known as the Babui pakhi, is renowned for its exceptional ability to construct elaborate nests using natural materials like grass, leaves, and twigs. These structures, which hang from tree branches, are created with remarkable precision as the birds use their beaks to stitch materials together. Historically, these nests were a common feature of the rural landscape in Bengal. However, the population of these birds and the visibility of their nests have declined significantly due to widespread deforestation and the loss of their natural habitats. A recent photographic collection from the Fultola region in Barishal highlights these architectural wonders, serving as a reminder of the weaver bird's unique craftsmanship and the ongoing environmental challenges that threaten their existence in the region.
