The Sri Lankan Police Media Division has announced the suspension of three officers from the Kobeigane station, including two sergeants and a constable. This disciplinary action stems from allegations of professional negligence regarding the death of a suspect held in custody. The individual, who was reportedly linked to multiple theft cases, was initially detained by local residents in Beddegama before being transferred to police authority. Following his detention, the suspect was admitted to Nikaweratiya Hospital, where he later passed away on October 27. In a related development, police spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler confirmed that authorities have also taken four villagers into custody for their alleged involvement in assaulting the suspect prior to his police handover. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death and the conduct of the suspended officers is currently underway.
