Authorities at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake detained three Thai citizens early on October 15 for attempting to import hashish into Sri Lanka. Officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau intercepted the individuals, aged 22, 22, and 33, as they exited the terminal. The suspects had arrived from Bangkok on a Thai Airways flight shortly after midnight. A search of their belongings revealed nearly six kilograms of hashish hidden within containers of cosmetic products. The estimated street value of the confiscated narcotics is 51 million rupees. The detainees, who reportedly work as drivers in their home country, are set to appear before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court later today to face legal proceedings regarding the smuggling attempt.
