Data released by the labor confederation TÜRK-İŞ indicates that the cost of providing a healthy, balanced diet for a family of four in Ankara reached 38,024 lira in October. This figure, referred to as the hunger line, highlights a growing disparity between basic nutritional requirements and the national net minimum wage, which has remained fixed at 28,075.50 lira since the beginning of the year. Consequently, a household relying on a single minimum wage faces a shortfall of nearly 10,000 lira just to cover food expenses, excluding additional costs such as housing and utilities. While monthly food inflation slowed to 0.59 percent in October compared to the previous month, the gap between income and essential spending continues to widen, placing significant financial pressure on low-income families across the country.
