The Union of Engineers and Architects Chambers in Turkey, known as TMMOB, has initiated legal action to contest a recent presidential decree. This executive order, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in early September, authorizes the transfer of operational rights for several major infrastructure projects to private entities for a duration of up to 30 years. The affected assets include Istanbul’s two Bosporus bridges, two beltways, and eight significant highway networks across the country, currently managed by the Directorate General of Highways. The TMMOB submitted its petition to the Council of State, which serves as the nation's primary administrative court. While the government maintains that the state will continue to hold ownership of these transit routes, the union is seeking to halt the implementation of the privatization scheme through this judicial challenge.
