The Turkish research ship Oruç Reis has commenced survey operations in the eastern Mediterranean, following the issuance of a navigational warning by the Antalya hydrographic station. This mission, scheduled to continue until October 25, focuses on the designated path for a subsea natural gas pipeline intended to connect Turkey’s Mersin province with a power facility near Kyrenia in northern Cyprus. The vessel is being supported by three other ships, the Denar Pathfinder, Denar Echo, and Kırıcı. This current activity expands upon a previous survey conducted in July along a smaller segment of the route. The project is being pursued under a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year between Ankara and authorities in northern Cyprus to facilitate the development of this energy infrastructure.
