United States stock indices experienced a fourth straight day of losses on Thursday, driven by rising oil costs and wholesale inflation data that exceeded market forecasts. These economic indicators have intensified speculation regarding potential future interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve. The Dow Jones Industrial Average retreated by 0.60 percent, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indices fell by 0.58 percent and 0.65 percent, respectively. Market performance was largely negative, with nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors finishing the session in the red. The materials and utilities sectors recorded the most significant losses. Conversely, consumer staples and communication services managed to achieve modest gains. The upward trend in crude oil prices followed recent comments regarding the persistence of high fuel costs.
