Uzbekistan is actively pursuing waste-to-energy initiatives to improve environmental conditions and promote a circular economy. Six projects, valued at $933 million and developed with Chinese partners, are underway in various regions, with some expected to launch by 2026. These facilities aim to process 3.6 million tons of waste annually while generating 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Additionally, authorities are reviewing five further projects involving investors from Singapore, South Korea, and China, which could process an extra 1.9 million tons of waste. The government is prioritizing the acceleration of these developments, focusing on infrastructure, local resource utilization, and workforce training. Plans are in place to collaborate with academic institutions to prepare 1,000 specialists to operate these new incineration plants, ultimately reducing landfill reliance and lowering greenhouse gas emissions across the nation.
