A recent forum involving think tanks from China and Central Asia focused on enhancing regional industrial collaboration, digital connectivity, and the circular economy. Bakhtiyor Mustafaev of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies emphasized that regional waste management could be significantly improved through partnerships with Chinese firms. With Central Asia producing 25 million tons of municipal waste annually, Mustafaev proposed creating cross-border value chains to overcome national market limitations. He outlined three strategic priorities: standardizing secondary raw material exports to China, establishing joint ventures for recycling renewable energy components like solar panels, and developing shared educational programs for circular economy experts. Uzbekistan is already advancing these goals by integrating private-sector participation and planning waste-to-energy facilities. These initiatives aim to foster job creation, enhance resource efficiency, and leverage Chinese technological expertise to build a sustainable industrial framework across the region.
