Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Mahkamov, and European Commission representative Pēteris Ustubs recently co-chaired a conference focused on advancing the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor. The meeting gathered international partners to evaluate infrastructure needs, financing strategies, and necessary regulatory reforms to enhance the route's efficiency. Discussions highlighted the importance of digitalizing trade documentation, such as eTIR and electronic certificates, to improve cross-border operations. Furthermore, the event explored private sector involvement through a proposed advisory committee aimed at integrating business expertise into policy discussions. As part of the EU Global Gateway strategy, this coordination platform seeks to foster sustainable growth and regional connectivity between Central Asia and Europe by transforming strategic goals into actionable infrastructure projects.
