WhatsApp has launched a new security function designed to help users evaluate the legitimacy of unknown contacts before engaging in a conversation. When a user receives a message from an unfamiliar number, the application will now display supplementary details, such as the country of origin for the phone number and any mutual groups shared between the parties. This information is intended to assist individuals in determining whether to block, report, or proceed with the interaction. This feature also triggers when a user initiates a message to someone not currently in their contact list. In addition to this update, the platform maintains existing privacy controls that allow users to restrict visibility of their profile pictures, online status, and last seen timestamps, as well as manage permissions for group invitations to further enhance overall account security.
