Security forces in Delhi detained the parents of Ankita Bhandari, a victim of a 2022 murder, alongside several Congress members of parliament during a demonstration at India Gate. The protesters gathered to voice opposition against the appointment of BJP leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam as the governor of Sikkim. Demonstrators allege that Gautam is the unnamed VIP associated with the murder investigation and demanded that his appointment be suspended pending a thorough inquiry. Although the parents were taken into custody, they were released within two hours. The protest gained momentum after senior Congress figures, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, participated in the sit-in on Wednesday. Following their departure, other party members continued the demonstration until police intervention occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.
