Officials from the Annapurna Rural Municipality convened a special executive session at the Annapurna Base Camp, situated 4,130 meters above sea level, to highlight the escalating threats posed by climate change. Chairperson Bishnu Bahadur KC reported that recent monsoon weather caused significant destruction to regional infrastructure, agricultural land, and tourism facilities. Specifically, flooding in the Modi and Kimrung rivers resulted in damage to local hotels and transportation networks, including a critical road link between Ghorepani and Pokhara that remained closed for over a month. Given the ongoing vulnerability of areas like Birethanti and Syauli Bazar, the local government is formally requesting increased financial and logistical assistance from both provincial and federal authorities to bolster climate resilience and repair damaged essential services.
