Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has publicly expressed frustration regarding the slow progression of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte. Trillanes directed his criticism toward Senate Presiding Officer Francis Escudero, asserting that the pace of the hearings is a direct result of Escudero's leadership and decision-making. Specifically, Trillanes questioned the handling of records from the Anti-Money Laundering Council, noting that the defense team was granted extra time to examine documents they had reportedly held for several weeks. He argued that this approach has caused unnecessary delays, effectively wasting time that could have been used to advance the proceedings. Trillanes, who was previously removed from the prosecution panel of the House of Representatives, suggested that a more objective presiding officer would have resolved these procedural issues more efficiently.
