Tang Ho-wing, an independent journalist operating under the name "Boomhead," was released on bail early Friday morning after being held by police for nearly 48 hours. The 37-year-old was taken into custody on Wednesday at a residential property in Jordan, where national security officers were observed escorting him in handcuffs. According to the Hong Kong Journalists Association, Tang is the first media professional to be arrested for alleged seditious intent under the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, also referred to as Article 23, which was enacted in 2024. Following his release from the Yau Ma Tei Police Station, Tang declined to provide any statements regarding the ongoing investigation when contacted by reporters. His arrest marks a significant development in the application of the city's new security legislation concerning independent media figures.
