An Astana man, Alexey Gerasimenko, dedicated nearly a month to nursing an injured eagle back to health after it was discovered in the Akmola region. The bird, which is listed in the Red Book, was found by one of Gerasimenko’s employees on September 20. The eagle was unable to fly due to a wing injury and was in a weakened state when it was rescued from the steppe. Despite the challenges of caring for such a large raptor, Gerasimenko provided the necessary treatment and hand-fed the animal to ensure its survival. The rescue effort highlights the difficulties involved in finding appropriate care and long-term placement for protected wildlife species after they are recovered from the wild.
