A Bengaluru-based athletic training company, A1 Sports World, has triggered public debate after announcing a policy to exclude male applicants from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. Founder Karthik Shenoy stated the decision followed the termination of an employee from one of these regions who was accused of harassing female coworkers. Despite receiving prior warnings regarding his conduct, the individual was dismissed after allegedly forcing himself upon a colleague. Shenoy defended the controversial hiring restriction, citing the need to protect the young children enrolled in their sports programs. Although he acknowledged the timing of his social media announcement was poor, he maintained that the policy remains in effect. The move has drawn significant criticism for its discriminatory nature, even as the founder claims support from some internal staff members regarding the necessity of the measure.
