The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines has declared red and yellow alerts for the Visayas power grid due to insufficient electricity supply. A red alert was scheduled for the hour between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by a yellow alert from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. These measures were implemented as peak demand neared the available capacity of 2,583 megawatts. The grid operator reported that 23 power plants are currently experiencing forced outages, while 21 others are operating at reduced capacity. Key contributors to the supply shortage include the ongoing unavailability of specific units at the Panay Energy Development Corporation and KEPCO SPC Power Corporation, alongside restricted power imports from Mindanao caused by maintenance activities in that region.
