The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has authorized an open warrant for the apprehension of former State Minister Premalal Jayasekara. This judicial action follows his failure to attend a scheduled court hearing regarding a lethal shooting incident that occurred during the 2015 presidential election campaign. The court has instructed the Inspector General of Police and the Criminal Investigation Department to facilitate the immediate execution of this warrant. Furthermore, two additional defendants involved in the same legal proceedings were ordered to be held in remand custody. The case stems from a violent event at a Kahawatta rally supporting Maithripala Sirisena, which resulted in a fatality. Previously, the Ratnapura High Court had issued convictions against Jayasekara and his co-defendants in connection with this matter.
