The Sri Lankan government has released a special postage stamp to celebrate the legacy of athlete Ranatunge Karunananda. The official ceremony took place at the Ministry of Mass Media, led by Minister Nalinda Jayatissa. Karunananda achieved global fame during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics when he persisted in finishing the 10,000-meter race long after his competitors had crossed the line. This act of tenacity earned him the moniker 'Courageous Loser,' establishing him as an enduring icon of athletic spirit and resilience. During the event, Minister Jayatissa emphasized that the stamp serves as a tribute to Karunananda’s character and aims to inspire younger generations of Sri Lankan athletes while preserving the nation's sporting history.
