Bintulu Port has officially shifted from federal control to the jurisdiction of the Sarawak state government as of September 1, 2026. This administrative change was facilitated by the enactment of the Declaration of an Area in the Bintulu District to be a Federal Port (Repeal) Act 2024 and the Bintulu Port Authority (Dissolution) Act 2024. Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd confirmed the transition in a regulatory filing with Bursa Malaysia. Currently, the management, operation, and development of the facility are being conducted under a heads of agreement signed on July 27, 2026, involving the Sarawak government, the Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak), and Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd. This arrangement will remain in effect until the final Port Operation Concession Agreement is formally executed.
