The Land Transport Authority of Singapore has announced that the extensive modernization of the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit network is now largely finished. Initiated in 2018, the project was deemed necessary as the original infrastructure had reached its operational lifespan. Throughout the eight-year duration, authorities systematically replaced aging components, including the signaling equipment, power supply infrastructure, and the Operations Control Centre. A significant portion of the upgrade involved the complete replacement of the initial fleet of light rail vehicles, which had been in service since 1999, with modern alternatives. Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow noted that these comprehensive enhancements are expected to provide passengers with more dependable and consistent travel experiences across the network. The project represents a major effort to maintain the longevity and efficiency of the transit system for local commuters.
