Butuan City Mayor Lawrence Fortun has ordered 11 barangays to implement emergency water supply systems within a 30-day timeframe to address a severe shortage. The affected areas, including Ambago, Bancasi, and Libertad, are encouraged to utilize 30 percent of their Quick Response Funds to procure necessary equipment such as water tanks, pumps, and filtration units. The city government will provide technical support and assist with documentation to expedite these projects. This directive follows the city's declaration of a state of calamity on September 5 due to prolonged dry conditions that have disrupted service for over 91,000 residents. While authorities continue to explore long-term solutions, these localized systems are intended to provide immediate relief to communities suffering from low water pressure or complete supply interruptions.
