A court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has sentenced ten individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement in the 2013 Jhiram Valley Maoist attack, which resulted in the deaths of 29 people, including prominent Congress leaders. Convicted on September 5, they faced charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code related to conspiracy and murder. The attack occurred on May 25, 2013, when over 150 Maoists ambushed a Congress convoy in Jhiram Ghati, Bastar, just ahead of the Assembly elections, injuring around 28 others. Among the deceased were notable figures like Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, and former MLA Uday Mudliyar.
