A study of 40 Chinese students in the UK reveals that many shift toward ambiguous dating goals after using mobile applications. While some students initially seek long-term partners, frequent negative encounters, such as being misled or ghosted, often lead them to adopt a non-committal approach to protect themselves emotionally. This shift contrasts with the traditional expectations of commitment prevalent in China. For some, the international environment offers a chance to explore diverse relationship types without the social stigma found back home. However, for many others, this uncertainty is a defensive mechanism against disappointment. Despite the prevalence of a 'go with the flow' attitude, the research indicates that a significant number of these students continue to desire stable, long-term connections, even as they struggle to find them within the current digital dating landscape.
