Authorities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have confirmed that the number of fatalities following the late August ferry sinking has climbed to 19. The vessel, identified as the Filo Jet, overturned shortly after departing from the port of Kyrenia on August 30 while transporting 267 passengers. While rescue teams successfully saved 239 individuals, a significant search operation has been ongoing for the remaining passengers. Specialized recovery crews are currently investigating the wreckage, which is located at a depth of 514 meters. According to the office of Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, the search for the nine individuals still unaccounted for continues. Officials recently announced that the ferry's voyage data recorder was successfully retrieved from the site on September 25 to assist in the investigation of the maritime accident.
