Authorities in Delhi apprehended two members of the National Students’ Union of India near the Jamia Millia Islamia campus on Wednesday. The arrests occurred as students continued their demonstrations, which began on October 12, to advocate for the reinstatement of student union elections, a process that has been dormant at the university since 2006. Five students have been participating in a hunger strike as part of these efforts. In response to the unrest, local police have enforced a ban on public gatherings in the vicinity of the university under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Meanwhile, the university administration has announced that upcoming examinations will be conducted in an online format.
