Malaysian fishermen face significant operational hurdles, including volatile weather patterns and escalating expenses, while laboring to maintain the country's seafood supply. Despite their essential contributions, these workers often struggle with inconsistent earnings. A primary factor behind this financial instability is the heavy reliance on intermediaries who capture a large portion of the value within the supply chain. Although Malaysia possesses vast marine resources and an extensive coastline, traditional fishing communities frequently lack the necessary capital and market access to secure equitable compensation for their labor. To address these systemic issues, there is a growing push to digitalize the sector. By connecting fishermen directly to open markets, proponents hope to bypass traditional middlemen, thereby ensuring that a greater share of the profit reaches the individuals who perform the actual harvesting.
