The Election Commission of India has instructed state poll officials to initiate a process to reinstate eligible voters who were incorrectly excluded during the recent special intensive revision of electoral rolls. Authorities have been advised to utilize Form 6 to facilitate these additions. This directive follows widespread criticism from political parties and civil society organizations regarding the commission's management of the revision process and calls for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. However, the move has sparked controversy, with former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi cautioning that Form 6 is intended exclusively for new applicants. Quraishi warned that requiring previously deleted voters to use this form could lead to legal complications, noting that individuals submitting it under these circumstances might face potential criminal charges, including imprisonment.
