The Chief Executive Officer of the Employees Provident Fund, Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn, has highlighted four critical areas Malaysia must address as the population experiences increased longevity. Speaking at the International Social Wellbeing Conference 2026, he emphasized that the nation must transition its focus from simple retirement savings to ensuring sustainable income streams for extended lifespans. According to the EPF, this demographic shift will significantly influence various sectors, including healthcare, labor markets, digital infrastructure, and community support systems. Zulqarnain stressed that achieving long-term social and economic stability requires a collaborative effort across these domains. He noted that income security, health services, employment opportunities, and community engagement are fundamental pillars for supporting an aging population effectively. The conference served as a platform to discuss how policy frameworks must evolve to accommodate these changing societal needs.
