The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has issued a formal resolution demanding that Turkish authorities cease the systematic targeting of LGBTQ+ individuals and human rights advocates. Following a report presented by British legislator Sam Rushworth, the assembly highlighted a significant decline in civil liberties within Turkey, specifically regarding the rights to free speech and peaceful gathering. The resolution specifically addresses the ongoing "My Family Is Safe" initiative, a nationwide operation launched in mid-September. This government crackdown has led to legal actions against over 160 individuals and numerous organizations across 15 provinces. Current reports indicate that at least 116 people have been taken into custody, with 82 currently imprisoned while awaiting trial. PACE emphasized the urgent need for Turkey to uphold fundamental freedoms and protect activists from state-led prosecution and harassment.
